Recommendations (Empfehlungen)

Today, there are several possibilities for self-education and even for studying Chinese martial arts. For getting a proper practical education, there is still no better way than having a good teacher, a real-life place for meeting training partners and learning hands on. However, you can educate yourself in many areas connected to the history, philosophy, theory, and culture of Chinese martial arts, which are always interesting and sometimes even necessary to progress in the practical training.

A Chinese proverb says: a good student is a clever student, but he should not be too clever. Which means that concerning your specific style you should not fill your brain and body (aka. the cup of tea) with second or third hand information too much. In the end it may happen, that your teacher have to empty the cup before filling it again with authentic first hand skills and knowledge, because the previous information was wrong, or was wrong in the particular context of your style/lineage, or was just not proper for the level of your training an blocks your progress.

However, for anyone who is eager to learn something more around the practical issues in training, who wants to dive into the cultural depth, enlarge their philosophical perspective or just like to hear an opposing opinion about historical events, there are many webpages and blogs out there that offer a high quality of information and reliable level of scientific approach.

Here we like to offer a small selection of those sources that are in our opinion good enough (or even better) to earn a chance being advertised. This does not mean, that the particular opinion and perspective of the respective authors are also ours; it just mean, that we see in those sources reliable and qualitative information and opinions that are worth to think about and criticize (positively or negatively).

We are always happy to expand our recommendations of high quality sources that offer not only oral information to one specific style, but open a broader and robust stock of knowledge. Please send us an Email if you would suggest another good source.
